This year's theme in Early Childhood Physical Education is "Active Academics." Students will work on physical skills throughout the year, incorporating simple academic content like letters, beginning word sounds, colors, shapes, and geography. As the year continues, I will add pictures to the bulletin board so you can see what kind of activities we are working on.
Since there are two A's in "Active Academics", and they both make the same sound, we started our learning with the letter "A." We talked about the sound, drew the letter with our fingers, figured out some other words that started with the same sound, and played a game called Alligators in the River. We laid hula hoops on the floor and children moved to music in different ways throughout the hoops. When the music stopped, children jumped into a hoop (boat) to be safe. Hoops were taken away and as children continued to play the game, they had to cooperate to fit as many people in their boat as possible, since no one was ever eliminated from the game. They loved this challenge!
We're also starting to talk about the letter "D". The children are excited that "D" is for "Dad's Day."
