Integrating Math Skills into Physical Education

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been integrating some math work into our practice of ball skills. Students are learning about greater than (>), less than (<), and equals (=).  We've been rolling dice and determining whether one color is "bigger, smaller, or the same" as the other die.  Later we added the two dice together and did tosses and catches to match the number.  In between these skills we played music and worked on basketball dribbling.  Students found an appropriate solution to the math problem, dribbled to a correct number and then lined up behind that number on the floor. Some classes played a game where two big dice were rolled and they had to determine if the blue die was greater than or less than the smaller die and then dribble to the wall with the correct sign. What a great way to learn math!
