Discus

One of our last events of our Summer Olympics review was the discus throw.  Students watched a brief video and we talked about how the discus is thrown within the safety cage and how the athlete must enter and exit from the back of the ring.  We also discussed how the distance is marked by where it lands on the throw and not where it eventually ends up.  The technique for the discus throw is very complicated so we actually did a frisbee throw and used a hula hoop as the discus ring.  There is a definite technique to throwing the frisbee, as well, so students practiced this skill.
