We watched a short video of Olympic volleyball and learned that the game is very fast paced. At the early childhood age, the use of a real volleyball would have been difficult so we used either an over sized beach ball or a huge ball called a floater, made from parachute material. It moved slowly so the students had more time to react. They enjoyed this activity, as the size of the ball and the lower net made it silly and fun. With some classes, we reviewed a hit called a dig or a bump and students practiced using the beach ball. I think I see some future volleyball players among our students.
