Today was World Smile Day. In Physical Education I talked to the students about the smiley face emoji and its start in the early 1960's. We also talked about how much easier it is to smile when someone else smiles at you. My classes did several activities today but one of them was with happy faces. Pieces of paper with smiles were hidden under poly spots that were spread out within the gym. Younger students went on a smiley face hunt as a group and discovered how quickly they could find all the smiley faces and return them to me. Older students modified this activity and did it as a relay. They had a line of same colored poly spots with only three having a dot underneath. The first person ran down to the spots and chose one to look under. If it had a smiley face under it, the person brought it back. If it did not, then the person returned empty handed and the next person took a turn. This continued until one team accumulated 3 smiley faces. Regardless of age, finding a happy face put a smile on that person.
