Ireland - Dancing the Irish Jig

To finish out our week, we are visiting Ireland, on the continent of Europe. Today preschool students learned the legend of St. Patrick chasing the snakes out of Ireland during the potato famine.  We did an activity where we passed two beanbags (representing potatoes) around in a circle during the song "Wearin' of the Green."  When the song reached different places in the music, the children holding the beanbags had to pick up the green derby hats and do a dance in the middle of the circle.  It was fun.

Students pass the beanbags around the circle.

This is a very good Irish Jig.

Students don the plastic hats as they prepare to dance in the center of the circle.

Students on the circle clap while their classmates dance.
