A Visit From a Siberian Husky

Today during the Montessori afternoon physical education time, students got the chance to see a real Siberian Husky that is owned by the family of one their classmates.  Since we had just finished doing the Iditarod in class, and are waiting to see who will win the real Alaskan Iditarod, this was a serendipitous opportunity.  Siberian huskies are one of the dogs used by mushers in "The Last Great Race on Earth."

The mother brought "Winston" and talked to the students about raising him from a puppy.  She mentioned the amount of food he eats, how he is groomed, how much exercise he needs, some instinctive habits that he has, and how gentle he is around others.  Winston is going to celebrate a birthday on Friday so we all sang "Happy Birthday" to him.  He also howls on occasion so the children all howled and Winston joined in.  We are grateful to have had this visit from Winston and his family.  Thank you for coming to school, Winston.

Winston enjoyed coming to school with his family.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to pet Winston's soft coat.

Everyone howls and Winston joins in.
