2013 Chinese New Year Parade

Early Childhood students participated in a Chinese New Year parade. They first watched a video of a real parade and learned about some of the traditions that accompany the 15 days in which the Chinese New Year is celebrated. Students learned that it is the year of the black water snake. Many students dressed in Chinese clothing or the lucky color red. We paraded through the halls with a long paper dragon, a dragon's head made from a box, various rhythm instruments for noise, ribbon wands for beauty, sparkle wands to represent fireworks, and red lanterns to light the parade, There was also Chinese music as we paraded along. At the end of the parade, all students received the traditional red envelope that is usually filled with money. Our envelopes had a fortune cookie, a lucky penny, and a hug coupon redeemable with someone special. Our parade was great fun!
