2013 Pancake Race

Each year on Shrove Tuesday, Liberal, Kansas, and Olney, England, have a pancake race in their towns. The winning times are compared and the town with the fastest runner is declared the Pancake Race Champion. This has been going on for over 60 years. Despite the fact that Liberal has the most overall wins, Olney took the top spot last year and again this year. In Physical Education, we hosted our own pancake race. It was too cold to hold the race outside but we still had fun running in the gymnasium. Students watched a video of last year's race and found Liberal on the Kansas map and England on the globe. After that, students dressed in scarves and aprons and ran with a skillet and a pancake inside. They flipped their pancakes at the start and end of the race, just like the real pancake race. Thank you to the volunteers who came to help with this event, along with the two mothers who made the pancakes.  The pancake race is always a fun tradition at Wichita Collegiate School.
