San Diego Zoo

A trip to the San Diego Zoo is a "must see" if you have children.  This is a world famous zoo that houses over 3,700 animals on 100 acres in Balboa Park.  If you ever decide to visit this zoo, be sure to wear comfortable shoes and make a day of it, as there is much to see.

In Physical Education students watched some video clips of various animals at the San Diego zoo.  Preschool students played a game called "Zookeeper."  They were divided into four hoops (zoos) and one player was designated as the zookeeper.  The zookeepers ran to other hoops to bring back an animal one at a time and put it in their zoo.  This continued for a short time and the game stopped.  In the end, we counted to see who's zoo had the most animals. Zookeepers were then changed and we started again. Kindergarten and Prekindergarten did an activity called San Diego Zoo beanbag golf.  Using beanbags, students followed an order on a card and slid beanbags to different cones that had various zoo animals on them.  They tried to do this with as few slides of the beanbag as possible and with proper form (stepping forward with the opposite foot.)

Thank you to the parents who came on parent visitation day and participated in our activities with their children.

The zookeeper takes an animal from another zoo to take back to his own zoo.

Students show the cards they had to follow as they played beanbag golf.

Stepping forward with the opposite foot was important during this game.

This student enjoys success as she hits the cone with her beanbag.
