Traveling the Boston Freedom Trail

Kindergarten students recently made a return imaginary trip to Boston to learn a bit about the Freedom Trail.  This 2.5 mile walking trail through the central Boston area takes visitors past a wide array of historical sites that have made a significant impact on our American freedom.  We talked a bit more about the Revolutionary War, Paul Revere and the Old North Church, the Old South Meeting House where patriots met to discuss plans for the Boston Tea Party, the many burying grounds which hold famous Americans that signed our Declaration of Independence, and much more.

For our activity in Physical Education, students participated in a Freedom Trail obstacle course.  This was a huge hit, as students were constantly moving.  They ran, jumped, crawled under and through obstacles, galloped, balanced, stepped on squishy cobblestones, and did a somersault. Their favorite activity was the midnight ride of Paul Revere.  They held up a lantern and yelled out "One if by land, two if by sea" and then mounted a stick horse yelling "The British are coming" while they galloped.  It was silly, but so much fun.

Watch a fun video of the Paul Revere ride.
