National Talk Like a Pirate Day

AARGH!!! Today was national "Talk Like a Pirate Day."  In Physical Education prekindergarten students did a pirate activity where they picked up hula hoops using a pirate's hook and carried them back to a cone.  It was a race to see which team could accumulate the most hoops.  It was harder than it looked and required some coordination to manipulate the hook under the hoop and carry it back without dropping it.  Students then counted their own hoops to see how many they were able to gather.  This was a good lesson in one to one correspondence.

Kindergarten students did an activity to a song called "Shipwreck."  They acted out a story about pirates who rescue a sailor who falls overboard into the ocean.  The students had fun pretending to be pirates.

Throughout the day students, teachers, and parents, had several jokes about a pirate's favorite letter: R (aargh), C (sea), or X for x marks the spot.

Hula hoops are carried back to a cone.

Hoops are counted by each group.

Sailors salute Captain Peg Leg in our "Shipwreck" activity.

"Man the lifeboats" is called out as a sailor falls in to shark infested waters.

AARGH!!  This student shows me her best pirate face.
