Pepperoni Pizza Day

September 20, 2018 – Pepperoni Pizza Day

As part of national pizza month, we celebrated Pepperoni Pizza Day.  We used the parachute as our pizza (the parachute is divided into triangles like pizza slices) and used Frisbees as the pepperoni.  This was a fun way to work on the basic technique for throwing a Frisbee.  Students gathered near the parachute and placed the Frisbee in their dominant hand.  They stood sideways to the “pizza” with the throwing hand closest to the parachute.  They then touched their opposite shoulder with the Frisbee, stepped towards the pizza with their closest foot, and reached out with the Frisbee towards the parachute and released the Frisbee.  (We call this “open the garden gate.”)  We counted how many Frisbees (pepperoni’s) landed on the pizza.   This was a fun and silly way to work on the Frisbee throw, but it was quite effective.
