National Frankenstein Day - October 29, 2018

I was gone today from school but left my lesson plans in the hands of a wonderful substitute who even sent me pictures of the activity.  Since it was National Frankenstein Day, classes learned a little about who Frankenstein is, who wrote the book, and the age of the book. (It is 100 years old this year.)  They jogged a few laps in the gym to the "Monster Mash" song and followed this up with a game called "Grab Frankenstein."  Each class was divided into two teams and stood on opposite sidelines.  Each team member was given a card with a part of Frankenstein on it and members of the other team were given the same cards.  Cards included Frankenstein's hair, scar, face, ears, bolts, hands, jacket, pants, and shoes.  When the teacher called out a certain card the members of each team ran to the center and tried to be the first person to pick up a Frankenstein bucket in the middle of the floor and run back to the home base.  The person who did not get the bucket chased the other team's person and tried to tag them before he/she made it back to the home base.  This game was played several times so students could have different cards.  At the end of class, each team laid their cards down and tried to build their own Frankenstein in the proper order.  It looked like students were enjoying this game.

Students hold up the cards that they are assigned.  When it is called, they will run to the middle.

Two students with the same card run to grab the Frankenstein bucket.

This student grabs the bucket and heads towards her home base.
An opposite team member is in pursuit.

This student made it back to her home base with the bucket.

This class poses in front of the board that shows them what Frankenstein is supposed to look like.

This class shows off the different cards they were assigned to play the game.

Students work together to assemble their cards in the correct order to build their Frankenstein.
