World Kindness Day - November 13, 2018

Today is World Kindness Day.  This day was established in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of 28 countries whose mission states, "The mission of the World Kindness Movement and World Kindness Day is to create a kinder world by inspiring individuals and nations towards greater kindness."  What a great plan!

In Physical Education we celebrated World Kindness Day by first reading a book called Be Kind, by Pat Zietlow Miller. The story relates how even one act of kindness can have a ripple effect that can make a difference for many people.  We followed this up with a tag game where students dribbled a playground ball with their hands and attempted to avoid being tagged.  If tagged, the student stopped and knelt with the playground ball and waited for a classmate to come and shake hands.  The person who was tagged responded with "Thank you for being so kind" and then returned to dribbling.  We changed taggers often.

Reading a book about Kindness.

Dribbling while the tagger is in pursuit.

Working on the dribble.

A dribbler stops by to offer a hand to a person who has been tagged.

"Thank you for being so kind" are the words used by
the person who is being saved by another dribbler.

Another person is back in to the game after extending
his hand and saying "Thank you for being so kind."
