Quirky Country Music Titles Day - March 27, 2019

Today's activity may have been a "stretch" but the children loved it.  It was "Quirky Country Music Titles Day."  I had to do some research on this topic but finally came up with some song titles like "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd," "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose," and "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road."  The last song was the impetus for our game today.  After talking about real skunks and why a person does not want to be near one, we went outside to play "Skunk Tag."  One person was "it" and used a spray bottle with water to mist others.  Another person had a soft skunk toy and was the "saver."  As children ran within a designated area they tried not to be sprayed.  If sprayed, they stopped and posed in an "X" position.  The person with the skunk had to come and throw underhanded for a successful catch.  Once caught, the new person with the skunk became the "saver."  We changed "sprayers" often because everyone wanted to be the person to spray.

I laughed so hard watching this game.  The children were having so much fun!  Don't be surprised if they come home singing "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road."

This student, who will serve as the rescuer, poses with the skunk.

The person with the bottle filled with water attempts to spray others.

After being sprayed, this student poses in the X position and waits to be rescued.

The person with the skunk comes to the rescue.

The skunk is thrown to the person who was tagged
and now that person will become the new rescuer.
