National Name Yourself Day - April 9, 2019

Today was National Name Yourself Day.  This day is set aside to let yourself be any name you want to be for 24 hours.  We played an old game called "Blind Man's Bluff."  One person was blindfolded in the center of a circle of students.  Another person was given a shaker to make noise on the circle. The blindfolded player had to find the person with the shaker.  Once this was achieved, the person with the shaker disguised his/her voice to say the name he/she had chosen for the day.  Children were encouraged ahead of time to keep their new name a secret and to try and say it in a way that the blindfolded person could not recognize the true identity of the shaker.  I was so impressed with how quickly children could recognize their classmates.  It took careful listening.

The blindfolded person heads towards the sound of the shaking container.

The blindfolded player puts her hand out so she will not run in to anyone.

This blindfolded player has found the person holding the shaker.

The shaker disguises his voice and identifies himself with his new name.
The blindfolded player must guess the real identification of the other player.
This required good listening.

This student laughs after figuring out the player's real name.
Some students had some very silly names, but that made it more fun.
