Bring a Bandanna for the International Pancake Race in PE February 24-25

Each year a very special race is held between two towns - Liberal, Kansas, and Olney, England.  This race is the International Pancake Race which is held on Shrove Tuesday.  This will be the 71st year of the event which has ladies dressing up in aprons and bandannas to carry a pancake in a frying pan 415 yards through the streets of their towns. A flip of the pancake is required at the beginning and end of the race. Although the official race is for women, there are events for men and youth also.  Official timers from each town call the other to confirm the time of their winner.  The fastest runner is crowned the international pancake race winner.  Last year's winner was from Liberal and the overall record has Kansas ahead, as well.

For years, we have had a lot of fun having our own pancake race in PE.  Most of the time the weather is too cold to go outside, but we still hold the event in the gym.  I will provide aprons, frying pans, and real pancakes, which friends have graciously offered to make.  Each child needs to bring his/her own bandanna, which is a requirement in the real race.  Thank you for your assistance with this request.

The following classes will hold their event on Monday, February 24 during PE: Gray, Burcham, Graham, Montessori half day morning, Kotkin, Zarei, Ghosh, and Johnson.

The following classes will hold their event on Tuesday, February 25 during PE: Freed, Reeder, Newlin, Montessori half day afternoon, Montessori full day, Gallagher, and Abdul.
