Listed below are three upcoming events in Early Childhood Physical Education that you should mark on your calendar.
1. Pancake Race (Monday, February 24 & Tuesday, February 25) - This is our own reenactment of the famous international pancake race that takes place each year between Liberal, Kansas, and Olney, England. Usually the weather is too cold to run outside, but we still run in the gymnasium with our frying pans and flip real pancakes. All students wear an apron and a bandanna. I will provide everything in PE except the bandanna. Your child will need to bring a bandanna for the day of the race. Bringing one ahead of time is great. All students will participate on their day for Physical Education. Tennis shoes will be needed.
2. Dr. Seuss Run (Wednesday, March 4, 8:30 a.m.) - This is a fun event where students come to the gym for a stretching warm-up and a 5 minute jog in the gymnasium to celebrate Dr. Seuss Week. An individual dresses up as the "Cat in the Hat" and students follow him as they jog. Nothing special is needed for this event except tennis shoes.
3. Read and Romp Day (Monday, March 9) - This is a collaborative activity between the physical education department and the library. Classes come to the gym and rotate to 10 different stations where they are read a short picture book and do a short physical activity. Students rotate every 12 minutes. It is a fun event and one that takes many volunteers. If you have already confirmed your availability to help, you will be contacted by email with your job assignment about a week ahead of the event. If you did not sign up, but would still like to help, please contact me at my school email - kathywagner@wcsks.com. Volunteers will arrive one half hour before the classes come to the gym. Students do not need anything special for this event except tennis shoes.
