Ireland - Shooting Baskets for Gold

Continuing our study of Ireland, we talked about some of the ways we celebrate St. Patrick's Day in our country.  Things like leprechauns, rainbows, pots of gold, shamrocks, and wearing green all add to the fun of this day.  In PE we did a basketball shooting activity with two different size goals.  We worked on proper form and using the backboard to help the ball go in to the hoop.  Students earned pieces of gold every time they made a basket.  They were so excited when they scored a goal.  Afterwards, students worked together to count the number of pieces of gold in their pot.

Students work to make a basket.

This ball is on it's way to the bucket.

Making a basket in the taller hoop was especially exciting.

This student has earned a piece of gold for scoring a goal.

This student drops his gold coin into the pot.

The coins are counted at the end of the activity.
