Working on "Beat" with Lummi Sticks

Preschool and Prekindergarten children have been working with lummi sticks in Physical Education. Some people grew up calling these rhythm sticks.  We have been using these sticks in various ways to keep the beat to the music. In addition, we've added various locomotor skills as we've moved and tapped to the music. Prekindergarten children have also talked a little bit about notation and the value of a quarter note, half note, and whole note.  They tapped their sticks to follow patterns written on the white board. They did a wonderful job.

Sticks go on the shoulders when not used.
It's fun to listen to the music and tap to the beat.
 Marching and keeping the beat.
