National Play Monopoly Day

Most of us have grown up with the classic game of Monopoly so, of course, we had to recognize national Play Monopoly Day.  I made up a game that I called "Fitness Monopoly."  Cards were made of many of the properties and spaces on the real Monopoly board.  The card had a fitness activity that students had to do before they either earned money from the bank or paid money back to the bank, depending on the card.  A die was rolled and a beanie baby game piece was moved along the spaces, ending on a space with a card.  Students performed the exercise and made the proper transaction with the bank.  Preschool children did this as a group with me.  Kindergarten students divided into two teams to see which group could earn the most money.  Students had fun withdrawing the correct amount of money from the bank and counting the final amount in each team's basket.

This game will be played by Pre-Kindergarten children on Tuesday.  I want them to have the opportunity to perform the exercises and make the financial transactions that accompany each card.  They'll enjoy it.

The die is rolled before moving the game piece.

The dots are counted to determine how many spaces to move the game piece.

The game piece lands on the Boardwalk space.  This group
will add $10 to their basket after performing knee lifts.

After landing on Marvin Gardens, this team does crab kicks before collecting their money.

This student gets ready to add $5 to his basket.

This student visits the bank to select $1 for his basket.
A big part of this game was learning what different values are associated with each color of money.
