Preparations begin in Physical Education for Early Childhood Pioneer Day

Students are beginning to learn various activities for our Early Childhood Pioneer Day, to be held in the morning on Tuesday, January 29. This is the 158th birthday of the state of Kansas so we will recognize this day with fun activities in the gymnasium.  There will be singing, story telling, farm animals, butter making, apple peeling, washing, clothes, demonstrations by both a quilter and spinner, roping cows, and pioneer games.  Children are encouraged to dress in pioneer clothing.  This can be as simple as a pair of jeans. Buying something new is not necessary for this event.

In Physical Education, we will spend the next two weeks working on scatter square dancing, roping, and pioneer games.  The games and roping will be part of the station rotation.  At the end of the event, all students will scatter square dance, an activity that lets students move around and be with many different partners.  It's a lot of fun and parents and staff are certainly invited to join in.

Because of our continuous work on Pioneer Day activities, I will not be adding to my blog until after the event.  We'll be busy learning how to dance, rope cows, shoot marbles, and many other activities.

These are some of the physical activities from the 2018 Pioneer Day.
