Earth Day - April 22, 2019

On Monday and Tuesday of this week, we talked about Earth Day in Physical Education.  Students are very aware of the need to take care of our environment.  We talked specifically about littering and recycling then played some Litterbug games.  The first game was called Litter Bug Tag.  One person was the tagger and tried to chase and touch classmates with a foam noodle.  If a person was tagged, he/she went to the trash bin and threw out a yarn ball which symbolized trash.  Another person was "Captain Green."  That person collected trash and brought it back to the bin.  We changed taggers and "Captain Green" often.

The second game was a game called "Beat the Litterbug."  The teacher was the litterbug and had a big bucket of yarn balls that symbolized trash.  The teacher threw the yarn balls one at a time as quickly as possible and students ran to retrieve them.  The litterbug tried to empty the bucket and the students tried to retrieve trash so that the bucket never became empty. This kept students moving.

The tagger chases his classmates and tries to make them a litterbug.

A student has been tagged and makes the litterbug antenna.

A litterbug throws a piece of trash (yarn ball) onto the gym floor.

The student wearing the green pinnie is "Captain Green" and picks up litter.

A "Captain Green" returns the litter to the trash bin.

Mrs. Wagner, the litterbug, throws trash (yarn balls) out of the trash bin as fast as possible.

Students try to gather trash quickly.

Students return trash to the bin as fast as possible so that the bin never becomes empty.
